Meeting Notice

The Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council will convene a meeting of its Scientific and Statistical Committee (SSC) on February 25 – 27, 2025. The meeting will be held at the Gulf Council Office located at 4107 West Spruce Street, Suite 200, Tampa, Florida 33607.
The meeting will begin with a joint session of the Gulf and South Atlantic SSCs. Together, they will review stock assessments for mutton snapper (SEDAR 79) and yellowtail snapper (SEDAR 96). Both stocks are managed jointly by the Gulf and South Atlantic Fishery Management Councils. The SSCs will review the assessments for consistency with the best scientific information available, and will consider modifying harvest limits based on stock assessment results. After reviewing these stock assessments, the South Atlantic SSC will be excused from further formal participation in the Gulf SSC meeting.
Next, the Gulf SSC will review results of a red grouper stock assessment (SEDAR 88). The Gulf SSC will review the assessment for consistency with the best scientific information available, and will consider modifying harvest limits for red grouper. The Gulf SSC will also select participants for the upcoming gray triggerfish stock assessment (SEDAR 100).
Finally, the Gulf SSC will review studies and data collection efforts funded through the Return ‘Em Right program and develop recommendations for using the data to inform fisheries management.
